Mold (Biotoxin Illness) Program
Treatment for Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) Related to Mold Exposure
For patients who suspect their health was negatively impacted by mold, our clinic takes a unique approach to the evaluation and treatment of your illness. The main appeal of this program lies in our team's all-out effort to determine the root cause of your symptoms.
Mold-Specific Or Triggered Illness?
For some patients, being exposed to mold from water damaged buildings will trigger a severe and ongoing inflammatory response because of their baseline constitution and predispositions. For others, however, mold acts more as the "straw that broke the camels back" stressor that reveals other more primary genetic tendencies predisposing to autoimmunity, histamine dysregulations, neuro-immune problems, etc.
In these patients, we need to address these other more primary genetic weaknesses and underlying consequences first. Then as we strengthen health and foundational constitution, mold toxins are easier to remove and exposure will no longer trigger an exaggerated immune response.

About Dr. Berry
Yvonne Berry, MD is on personal sabbatical and is no longer seeing patients as a physician. Nevertheless, she remains an honorary team member because her passion to educate patients and physicians (including dr. Boggess) about bio-toxin illness became a national phenomenon during her tenure at Natural Balance.
In fact, Dr. Berry's inspirational story remains an important part of our clinic's history and has greatly influenced our ability to help patients who come to us with mold related illness.
After completing her medical training, Dr. Berry and her children started to develop a host of unusual symptoms that were later found to be related to toxic mold exposure. Initially she received treatment and advice from multiple physicians without much progress and then decided to bring her family under the care of Dr. Boggess. However, even Dr. Boggess’s typically successful approach wasn’t bringing recovery, which eventually led to their co-discovery of CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) and Dr. Shoemaker’s books and training materials.
Over the next several years, with Dr. Boggess's encouragement, Dr. Berry intently studied the clinical research and biotoxin treatment protocols of Dr. Shoemaker and started working with patients in our clinic. During this time, she authored a presentation titled “A Physician’s Guide to Understanding & Treating Biotoxin Illness, Based on the Work of Ritchie Shoemaker, MD” that helped many doctors around the country, including Dr. Boggess understand this complex and multifaceted illness better. Dr. Berry has also been recognized for effectively whittling this complex topic into educational material for patients as well, and her videos and materials are still important tools we use to help patients understand biotoxin illness (see intro video below).
While Natural Balance does NOT offer the Shoemaker protocols as Dr. Berry explains in her videos, we have been able to help many patients around the country get their life back using a combination of approaches based on the knowledge gained during the years that Dr. Boggess and Dr. Berry worked closely together with our patients.
